About Us

Founded in 1997, The Overtones is the premiere co-ed a cappella group at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Their first album, "..(Un)Necessary Details," was released in 1999. With this album, the song "Ghost" made them the first a cappella group at JMU to be heard on The Best of College A Cappella compilation CD in 2000. Their second and third albums, "Hey What" and "Interrupted," were released in 2001 and 2003, respectively. In 2006, The Overtones released their fourth album, "The Red Room Sessions," which featured an original Overtones' song, "Let Go." From the same album, the song, "Rafiki," was selected for the Voices Only 2006 compilation CD. In October 2007, they celebrated their 10-Year-Anniversary in true Overtone style with a host of Overtone alumni. During their spring break tour in 2008, The Overtones placed first at an a cappella competition, Rockin' the Forest, hosted by The Demon Divas of Wake Forest University. In April 2008, at their year-end show, they released their fifth, and latest album, "Bangerang!" The song, "They," from that album, was selected for Voices Only 2008. The Overtones plan to release a new album in Spring 2010, which will feature some crowd favorites, "Alone" (Heart), "I Will Come to You" (Hanson), and "The Wanderer" (Marc Broussard).

The Overtones would like to thank the fans, parents, and alumni for their incredible support.
